Micellar Water: A multi-use skincare solution

Micellar Water: A multi-use skincare solution

We love a good multi-use product. Not just because multi-use generally means ‘time-saving’ or ‘convenience’, but also because generally these kinds of products tend to challenge what we think about skincare.

Micellar water is one such product. With a name that sounds equally intriguing, scientific and magical, let’s breakdown what this product type is, how it works and who can benefit from using one.

What is a micellar water?

Micellar water is made up of tiny oil molecules called ‘micelles’ that are suspended in a gentle water like solution. Micelles have a water-loving head and a water-hating tail that likes to attach itself to the excess oil, makeup, dirt and grime on the skin. This means it traps and draws the impurities out, without drying or stripping the skin. Instead, your skin is left feeling refreshed and hydrated.

Micellar waters are basically a cross between a toner, cleanser and make-up remover. A good insight into why we called our version of a micellar water, Multi Juice.

Who should use a micellar water?

Because a micellar water can provide many functions, it’s often a good product to take travelling when you might be short on space or access to running water.

We also like to recommend using our Multi Juice as a skin drink or toner for oily and combination skin types as part of their Daily Diet skincare routine.

We’re not advocates for the double cleanse (if you’re using a good and suitable cleanser for your skin you really shouldn’t need to) but with these skin types, Multi Juice helps provide some further refinement of excess oils while also giving the skin a decent splash of hydration.

It’s loaded with lots of refreshing and nourishing ingredients like aloe vera, hyaluronic acid and coconut oil, as well as an ingredient called Multifruit which is a blend of naturally occurring AHAs that help to gently refine and exfoliate the skin.

How can you use a micellar water?

Just like other micellar waters, Multi Juice is best used in conjunction with a cotton pad or reusable cleansing pad – just soak the pad in the solution and gently wipe it across your face for refreshed, balanced and glowing skin.

Unlike other micellar waters, we recommend using Multi Juice after cleansing at night to refine and hydrate the skin before applying your face oil or balm.

In the morning, we recommend using it after splashing your face with water to help refine the excess oils on your face, but not disturbing the delicate microbiome of your skin that has readjusted overnight. It would therefore be the first step before your moisture product.
