Our Routine

The Fundamental 5

A full Skin Juice routine is built on 5 fundamental principles about how your skin works. They’re here to guide you, not confine you, so your routine can flow with the rhythm of your skin. After all, skincare rules can be rigid, but reality is not.

Cleanse

Your skin is home to healthy microbes that form part of its natural defence system. These microorganisms help protect against harmful bacteria, calm irritation, and support nutrient absorption. They rely on your skin’s lipid barrier - a layer of natural oils that locks in moisture and keeps this ecosystem balanced.

Throughout the day, your skin is exposed to environmental stressors such as pollution and UV, as well as things like makeup, which can oxidise and damage the lipid barrier. When this barrier weakens, the skin becomes less effective at protecting itself. Cleansing helps remove oxidised oils, makeup, and impurities, but the method matters.

Many Skin Juice cleansers work on an oil exchange principle - biocompatible plant oils bind to these damaged oils and impurities, dissolving them while simultaneously replenishing the skin’s natural lipid layer. This keeps the skin fresh, soft, and balanced, without that “squeaky clean” feeling that signals a potential barrier disruption.

We recommend cleansing once a day, at night, to allow the skin to reset without disrupting its natural rhythms.

In the morning, we prefer a splash of water and not cleansing (see the Nourish Fundamental).

Hydrate

Water is essential for healthy, functioning skin, supporting many of its natural processes. Hydration is the skin's best natural moisturiser; it plumps and softens the skin, keeping the cells bouncy and healthy. It also helps the skin’s intracellular fluids function more efficiently. The Intercellular fluids deliver oxygen and nutrients to cells while carrying away waste. This fluid also supports firmness, smoothness, and strong communication between skin cells.

Water also activates natural enzymes that gently dissolve the bonds (desmosomes) holding dead cells together, allowing the skin to exfoliate itself and maintain a healthy, balanced barrier, as well as regulating oil flow.

Even though water is vital, it’s also easily lost. Environmental exposure can temporarily dehydrate the skin, so can cleansing and exposure to water - much like how your fingers wrinkle after a long swim.

Hydrating essences and tonics work to replenish and retain this moisture. Formulas rich in polysaccharides and humectants attract water to the skin and lock it in, keeping the barrier supple and functional throughout the day and night.

Hydrate twice a day with a skin essence like Bio Juice or Multi Juice - at night after cleansing, and in the morning after splashing your face with water.

Nourish

Your skin naturally produces a blend of sweat (rich in amino acids and lactic acid) and sebum (natural oils) that combine to form the acid mantle - a thin, slightly acidic film on the skin’s surface. This mild acidity, typically around pH 4.5–5.5, helps inhibit harmful bacteria, supports a balanced microbiome, and enhances the skin’s ability to absorb beneficial ingredients. The acid mantle also locks in hydration and helps reduce water loss and protecting against external irritants.

At night, the skin enters repair mode, working to rebuild and strengthen its acid mantle after the day’s exposure to environmental stressors. During this time, it increases circulation, stimulates cell renewal, and becomes more receptive to nourishing ingredients.

However, heavy or emulsified night creams can create a coating that disrupts this process, limiting the natural production of sebum and sweat that are essential for maintaining a healthy acid mantle. On the contrary, lightweight, biocompatible oils and balms nourish without interference, replenishing essential lipids and supporting the skin’s overnight repair and barrier renewal.

Use nourishing oils or balms at night instead of a face cream.

We also recommend skipping the morning cleanse to help maintain your skin’s natural acid mantle balance.

Moisturise

Your skin’s moisture barrier - a mix of lipids, ceramides, and natural moisturising factors - acts as a shield against daily stressors such as air conditioning, pollutants, irritants, and water loss.

Moisturisers help restore balance by replenishing hydration and reinforcing the skin’s lipid barrier. This strengthens its ability to hold water, maintain smooth texture, and resist external stress.

Skin Juice face creams are designed to work with the skin, releasing nutrients gradually throughout the day to maintain lasting comfort and protection. Each formula blends specific lipids and essential fatty acids to meet different moisture needs and barrier conditions.

Apply a nutrient-rich face cream to comfort and protect the skin.

Follow with SPF for complete daily defence.

Treat

In a perfect world, your skin knows exactly what to do - it can balance oil, retain hydration, repair damage, and protect itself naturally. But modern living can throw things off balance. Environmental stressors, lifestyle factors, and internal changes can all disrupt these natural processes, leading to conditions such as dullness, dehydration, congestion, or sensitivity.

Targeted treatments like serums, exfoliants, masks, and eye care help address these specific needs. Each one delivers a concentrated dose of actives designed to refine, brighten, calm, or strengthen - supporting the skin’s natural biological functions when it needs a little extra help. These products can also be complemented with professional treatments for deeper results.

Start with the basics to bring your skin back into balance.

You can then introduce treatments and products gradually to enhance results and support your skin’s unique rhythm.
